Heads Lead the Body

Miranda Priestley, my idol
Corporate bosses are the ones who set the corporate culture. You get a jolly boss, the staff underneath either become jolly and lax. You get a terror boss, then people tend to be panic suicidal and stressed but are productive. You get a middle boss, and that's what I have.

There's really no saying which culture is better because we're all unique and the same applies to corporate people. As with anything else, an organism survives because it has adapted to environmental strains; otherwise it perishes. Corporations are pretty much like organisms in a macro perspective. If the existing culture hampers the growth of the cells in it, then chances are it won't perpetuate. Hope I made that point clear.

I am all for the strictest kind of boss, the Miranda Priestley type that fosters fear into the hearts of everyone and yet brings out the best in anybody. People are by nature lazy, well some may contest this coz some may be motivated enough but at least I speak for myself. If not pushed enough then the output won't be as productive.

So yes, Miranda Priestley, make my day!

CORPORATE | Everything Online

I've been trying so hard to keep track of all my dealings in the office to the point of making multiple entries for the same events or important things to do. Needless to say, that is such a waste of time and in a busy world where I am in right now, every second count (even this entry is eating much of could have been used for some other worthwhile tasks- sigh!).

CORPORATE | Prioritization

Prioritization.

It is perhaps one of the most important concepts that a person should learn when inside a company. Correction- a demanding company. Back in my university days, I know how vital prioritizing important things is. The sad part is that I was never good at prioritizing things that really matter. Yes I have my organizer for that. Only proves how much I need to be reminded at all the things that have to be done.

But once already in a corporate environment like where I am right now, there’s really not much choice but to develop this skill. I also have to learn not to lose focus. I am starting to believe that my attention span is only good for five minutes and after that, puff! I guess the only thing I can do now is to learn how to prioritize.

TRAVEL | Leaving the Night Before (In Korea 2008)

It’s Eid Holidays here in Saudi Arabia and I was stuck in my room for one week doing nothing except sleeping, eating, and watching movies. What a way to gain weight. Anyway, I was reminiscing the last days I had back in Korea 2008. I watched the video made by my Korean friend, Kino. The video was made 3 years ago but it seems so fresh in my mind. I still find myself laughing when I watch this video.

Amidst all these is the fact that most of the clips included in the video was taken the night before I left for the Philippines.

Remarkable Beauties

2011 is about to end. We are down to the last two months and sadly, I have not been that active updating my blog entries. Honestly, there are already so many things that have happened in my life for the last seven months but I just can't find enough inspiration to put all them in a logical written form.

Anyhow, for this entry let me talk about well, beauty pageants. Yes, I'm still not over this topic. This year 2011 has seen a remarkable result for the Philippine delegates in the three major beauty competitions, from Ms. Universe-

Shamcey Supsup, 3rd runner up in Ms. Universe 2011
Philippine delegate to Ms. Universe would have easily brought the crown back home if only judges have been fair to her. For the record, she had the most concise and precise answer among all finalists. She's got the beauty to be adjudged Miss Universe. But it really puzzles most people why she didn't win.

After Miss Universe came the most unexpected of all- the Miss World. Just so readers of this blog would have an idea, Miss World is not popular to most Filipinos. For many years, a Filipina has not been named Ms. World yet. The closest the Philippines reached was 3rd runner up. So it came as a surprise that Philippines delegate, Gwendoline Ruais, was selected as 1st runner up (almost there).

Gwendoline Ruais, 1st runner up in Miss World 2011
Most Filipinos raised an eyebrow when Ruais was chosen as representative to Ms World because she undeniably looks like a man in a girl's clothe. But she had long legs they say so she stood a chance, and her feat was historical breaking all records.

Finally, the last remarkable feat for the Philippines is the inclusion of Diane Necio, Philippines' delegate for the Miss International. In this competition, the Philippines has been the most successful Asian country to participate with 4 titles given.

Diane Necio, finalist in the Top 15 of Miss International 2011
Necio was a strong contender for Miss International with striking Filipina features that are difficult to ignore. Personally, I'd say that she deserves to be crowned Miss International but then again, the judges had a different taste. Anyhow, being included in the Top 15 is already a big leap for the Philippines.

Hopefully next year the Philippines will be able to bag one of these crowns.

Beauty Pageants

Okay, so here's the fuss- I've never been an avid follower of beauty competitions but this year 2011 proved to be one lucky year for the Philippines as all representatives were selected from top 15 (Miss International) to top 5 (Miss Universe) to top 3 (Miss World). What does it say for a developing country such as the Philippines? It's not like it's going to improve the country's economy or solve social injustice. But on the positive side, this good news brings hope to mos Filipinos knowing that even in the middle of poverty of and turmoil, the Filipinas (term for female Filipinos) are still considered one of the most beautiful women in the planet.

I don't want to look at BEAUTY as mere physical quality but more of the wholeness of the concept. Filipinas are beautiful because they are reflection of the country's resilience against life's challenges; that even in the most hurdling circumstances, the Filipino people will always survive. Truly, Filipinas are one of the testaments of the Philippines priceless treasures. Mabuhay tayo!

Just Trying Out…

So I just found this feature on my new laptop which enables me to create posts for my blog through my laptop straight to my blog account (without going to the actual site). I wonder how this would turn out?

The Caffeinated Lots!

For this VLOG, I tried using Vimeo instead of youtube since the former is taking ages to upload. And with the kind of Internet speed we have here in Riyadh, I don't think I have enough patience to wait for so very long. However, I don't quite seem to like the interface of Vimeo since it's quite small. Anyhow, I'll learn more about that.

Drinking coffee is definitely one of my favorite past time activity. However, when I arrived here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia I thought I wouldn't be able to zip and smell that aroma again for a long time. Good thing there are some places here in my work location where I can just sit and enjoy my cup of coffee.

A Glimpse of Riyadh

Officially 5 months here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and I have so few entries in my blog which is kind of lousy considering that there have been so many things happening in my life here. I just don't have the energy to write everything but I have to change that. Anyhow, here's a video I made on one of our trips around Riyadh. I plan to make more videos with the remaining time that I have here in Saudi so wish me luck.

CORPORATE | Late nights at Office

I'm still at the office working on the piles of documents either to be submitted to the Head Office or released to the consultants.

I'm not complaining or anything. I just find this routinary work quite unfit for my expertise and though I try to incorporate what I have studied in what my office life demands... well there isn't always enough opportunity to do that.

Clock says 7:17 pm but I am yet to start the long documents ahead. Sometimes I just close my eyes and think about the future when I don't have to stay late in the office and labor on things which could be done by somebody else... not me.

CORPORATE | Observation : Timing and Human Emotions

TIMING

Corporate life has taught me that to get ahead of the game, one has to become a STRATEGIST which differs greatly from being book smart and overly pedantic with rules.

Corporate life taught me that it's always best to weigh the situation and TIME everything to gain optimal results (considering of course the risks attached to all decisions).

In connection, people are naturally fleeting. Human emotions are dependent on current situation and that's what we need to assess before making important decisions.

Wooden House

I saw a room... a wooden type of room and stayed in it.
(Hours before sleeping, I saw the wooden rooms of the resort my old friends stayed in)

Start of My Lucid Dreams

Last night, my attempt to astral project/lucid dream failed. As I recall, I kept hearing voices from the people I know and events that slowly flashed in my mind were that of the events hours before I went to bed. I recall hearing two particular voices- Melchor and Cocoy whose voices were certainly distinguishable among others. I recall the dinner at Shawaya (a local chicken house) and the events in the van- the shouting and laughter. But I failed to maintain my consciousness as I gave in to the flow of convoluted events.

And then after a few minutes or so, everything faded. But I know that I dreamed of something but just can't remember anything. The next thing I heard was my phone alarming, then me finding my phone under my chest and pressing the stop button, then went back to sleep.

CORPORATE | Observation 3: Fashion and Looks

Corporate Observation 3: Employee's appearance determines the amount of respect and confidence in an office setting. Fashion dictates impression, as impression is the most lasting.

CORPORATE | Observation 2: Boss Attitude

Corporate Observation 2 : The boss's attitude and everything about him influences the general atmosphere of the office.

Hypothesis 1 : The attitude of the boss influences positively / negatively the attitude of the employees.

Hypothesis 2 : The attitude of the boss directly affects the productivity and motivation of the employees.

Monday, August 8, 2011

CORPORATE | Observation 1 : Ranking and Psyche

I'd like to start a series of observations in my company.

First observation : If a boss is kind or terrifying, the subordinates do not take it against the boss. If an employee is kind, he will be abused. If an employee is terrifying, he will be hated.

Hypothesis 1 : The corporate ranking significantly affects/triggers the emotional and psychological being of the employees and bosses.

Hypothesis 2 : Self-characteristics do not determine effective performance in an office setting.

Goofy Morning at the Office

From Left to Right: Me, Nino, Ira (on the chair) and Samir the Egyptian

Just having a goofy break

Mornings like this in the office make work more bearable.

I've never really had a formal experience in an office (although I've been to a couple of companies which were only for a couple of months). Coming from a fresh graduate perspective, I must say that things are not exactly the way I thought they would be, although I try to keep a mental note of 'The Devil Wears Prada' and if everything else goes shit then I just play that song 'Suddenly I See' and things become a little better.

Life in Riyadh

Great!
So blogspot's working.
Finally an avenue to release stress.
Whew!

Actually, life in Riyadh is not that bad. Except of course for the intense scorching weather that makes your nose bleed whenever you feel like walking during lunch breaks (and I don't really get to have a choice whether to stay indoors or go home because I really have to eat).

Anyway, this is my first entry- after arriving here in Saudi Arabia. I just want to tell everyone- my family, friends and everyone back there in the Philippines that I am okay. God is with me so I'm always safe. But then again, please pray for me as I always pray for you.

BICOL SUMMER GETAWAY 2011

TRAVEL | Panglao, Bohol in the Philippines

The Internet connection right now is just plain crazy and since I am pressed for time, I would have to post just some of the interesting photos I took in Bohol. I'll edit later.

BOHOL PROVINCE. I stayed at Panglao, the South-West part of the province.

TRAVEL | Lone Sojourner

Traveling alone can be a good opportunity for anybody to reflect and enjoy some new place minus the hassle of minding a companion's welfare and time limitation. When traveling alone, you can practically do anything you like. And that's exactly what I did in my BOHOL trip last March 2011.

This is my first time to really travel on my own. In the Philippines, backpacking alone is something people don't usually do for two main reasons- one is security, another is money. Honestly, it's not safe to travel in the Philippines. There's the risk of getting killed. But of course that bloody scenario can always be avoided with enough precaution and common sense.

TRAVEL | NAIA 1, 2, and 3

It was interesting to know that there's actually a shuttle that transports passengers from NAIA 3 to EDSA MRT. For those who are not familiar with commuting to the airports- there are three airports in Manila: NAIA 1, 2 and 3.

NAIA 1 : The old dilapidated archaic ancient airport of the Philippines that houses all foreign air carriers.
I've blogged about it before how the government would let foreign visitors use this airport. What is the government thinking? Lemme guess, maybe they want visitors to get a genuine feel of Philippine poverty at once so they would not have to expect anything?
(as of 2016, some improvements and repairs have been made).

NAIA 2 : The so-called CENTENNIAL airport that only has PHILIPPINE AIRLINES  (PAL) at its ground.
I've tried PAL before and I don't want to board that plane again. First of all, it's very expensive compared to others. Second, the seats are very cramped makes you feel uncomfortable to travel long hours. So, even if I am a Filipino, I wouldn't recommend PAL.

NAIA 3 : The newest airport which has been operating under 50% completion.
This airport has been the subject of a long debate in the senate/congress whether it will be allowed to operate or not. Due to some corruption issues, the operation of this airport has been stalled for the longest time and even up to this writing time, still half of it is not operational.

TRAVEL | Airport Lessons (Some Tips to Remember)

Bored waiting for my VISA to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; I decided to buy a plane ticket going to Bohol. I've heard a lot of good things about this province but I never really had a chance to visit and experience the place. Well I had plenty of time so it was a go, go, go for me.

Cebu Pacific. One of the cheapest carriers in the Philippines.

I can vouch that this was my very first attempt to travel the Philippines on my own. Kinda risky but the experience was just thrilling and I learned so many life lessons along the way. I hope that my observations help people (like me) to get the most out of traveling.

No Energy

These days, all the energy in the world is deserting me to write any post in my blog; although there are certainly a lot of things/stories I need to share to the world. But perhaps a day or two, I'll be snap back into my senses and get back on to writing.

TRAVEL | Tagbilaran Day Tour (Bohol)

Deciding whether to take a day tour (1800 Php) or go island hopping (1300 PhP), I opted to take the day tour since I am not into dolphin watching and snorkeling. Furthermore I needed a transport to go to Tagbilaran to buy my ship ticket going to CEBU which is my next destination.

The day tour was fun although I was alone. Well it would have been better if there are others with me to save money but since it's my last day, I couldn't wait for anybody to come with me.

TRAVEL | Kwebang Lampas (Pagbilao, Quezon)

White Sand at Kwebang Lampas
My first beach activity this 2011 happened at this place called Kwebang Lampas. It is a private beach resort located at Brgy. Polo, Pagbilao, Quezon.

Not many knows that Quezon Province boasts many beaches that have not been discovered and developed yet. One particular area is Pagbilao. It's sea shore overlooks Tayabas Bay and most of its sand is white which makes it a haven for beach lovers.

Sunset

While looking at the sunset today at Roxas Boulevard, I was amazed at how little it is to make people essentially happy. I was happy after seeing the sun set. It was really nothing but it was joy unlike any other.

Roxas Boulevard remains the dirty, ugly looking avenue but all that becomes unnoticed when you start seeing the bright orange, red, and yellow scattering through the dusky sky. It was sheer happiness I can't completely explain.

I think we've been so busy with our lives that we can't appreciate things like this anymore. I guess this is one of the reasons why I want to pursue that travel plan to La Union or Sagada. Maybe in silence I would find the answers to my questions. Not that I have so many questions but I just need to reflect more. To see more who I really am. What I really want.

TRAVEL | Farewell Time

Thursday. March 3, 2011.

We woke up quite late. The original plan was to leave the house at 7:30am. But because Teacher Judith cooked breakfast, we ate first and left the house at 8:30am. The traffic was horrible. Worse was the sluggish driver. I almost became a backseat driver but I had to contain myself.

We were really running out of time. The flight of the two guys was at 11:05am. We arrived at the airport at 10:35am. Only 30 minutes before the flight. They had to cut in line just to try catching their flight. Unfortunately, they missed the plane.

Kino sent me a text message saying, “We missed the plane. Very interesting.” I was worried but Kino said they’re going to be in the next flight at 12:30pm. This really made me wonder how the government couldn’t do anything about the serious trouble traffic jam is causing the Filipinos and foreigners. Really sad.

Sitting in the bus. I looked at the sky. It’s sunny today. It’s as if nothing happened. It’s as if the two weeks was just a day. I felt sad. I know I won’t see my friends again after a long time. But then again, I know time flies. So I’ll just look forward to the day that I can spend some time with them once more.

TRAVEL | The Last Night in Manila

Wednesday. March 2, 2011.

The Last Few Hours in the Resort

Kino got up very early. I saw him go out of the room. I thought he was just using the toilet but I looked and he was actually in the Jacuzzi, reading the pocketbook I gave him. I didn’t bother him anymore. I thought quiet time would do him good. I decided to go around the place and see what else to see.

The place was big. I am not very good at measurements but I know that my whole subdivision would have fitted in that resort. There was a lake where one could ride a boat. Eight pools of different temperature. One volleyball court. One function house under construction. One restaurant. And cottages all around the place. The resort was decorated with wood carvings and marble statues. It was really amazing.

TRAVEL | 88 Hotspring Resort in Laguna

Tuesday. March 1, 2011.

Last Day at Home

Breakfast was the same- eggs and hotdogs. So when Kino and Jeenyong woke up, they cooked brunch themselves. We had to eat heavy since this was the last day at home. We were leaving later for the hotspring in Laguna. I convinced my dad to drive us there although he was not sure whether the van can drive that far. In the end, the van was able to.

Jeenyong wanted to say goodbye to my sister. Good thing my sister came home before we left. So Kino and Jeenyong said goodbye to her.

At around 1:30pm, we left the house and bid Lucena goodbye.

TRAVEL | Sea Food, Balut and Bingo

Monday. February 28, 2011.

Sea Food

Not exactly what we ate, but just so to give you an idea.

Mother had to go to work today. She prepared breakfast or something like that. I thought I had to add something up on the table so bought some things on the shore, washed a few dishes and set the table. It was a very simple breakfast but I put a lot of effort into it.

TRAVEL | Hitting the Beach, Kwebang Lampas in Pagbilao

Sunday. February 27, 2011.

Early in the Morning

And so Kathrina woke me up at 5am. She asked whether we’ve already awaken. I said yes. But I let the two guys sleep more. Kino got up but went back to sleep again. I drank my morning fix of coffee. I couldn’t sleep anymore. Later my mom went down and started cooking the chicken.

I prepared the utensils- the spoon, fork, paper plates (which I found later on doesn’t have paper, just plates). The chicken took a long time to cook. At 6:15 we left the house. We dropped mother at the diversion road. Met Kathrina afterwards along the highway. The weather was rainy. It wasn’t the perfect time to go to the beach. I felt sad about that. But no other time to go to the beach except this day.

TRAVEL | Going Native at Palaisdaan

Saturday. February 26, 2011.

Change of Travel Plan

The original plan was that at 12 midnight, we’ll travel to my hometown since Kino and Jeenyong don’t have any place to stay in. Unfortunately we had a meeting in the office for an hour so we finished around 12 midnight also. I asked Kino if they can still travel but he said better to go tomorrow. It was better. I slept.

In the morning, I decided to eat breakfast first at Jollibee. Joy, a fellow Communication Research major and a friend of Kai drove Kino and Jeenyong to Jollibee. It was my first time to see Jeenyong and I was just glad he was safe.

TRAVEL | Jeenyong's Arrival

CHAPTER 2. JEENYONG’S ARRIVAL

Friday. February 25, 2011.

Fetching Kino at Terminal 4

Laila sent me a message. She was asking for the camera. It was kind of unexpected since I thought she’ll get the camera by Monday. Said she’s going to Pampanga and she needed the camera. Thus, I had to go meet Kino at the airport and get the camera.

The Old Domestic Airport...

Kino suggested that I coordinate with Kai and go there together. Kai agreed. At 12:30pm, we met at MRT Cubao. Upon arrival at Taft, we took the coaster bus to Terminal 3. We waited there for an hour only to find out that Kino was in Terminal 4 (which I doubt if it was indeed Terminal 4). It was actually the old domestic airport. It was already 2:30pm. We saw Kino sitting in front of the entrance.

He wasn’t feeling very well when I greeted him. He said he had stomachache. It was terrible. The taxi driver was a pain in the ass as well. He made us go down and take the other taxi. When we were inside the second taxi, the driver charged us some additional fee. I refused and slammed the front of the cab with my folder. Guess I was too agitated that time. I was violent. We got off and guess what, rode the first taxi.

Jeenyong arrived today. I couldn’t pick him up since I still had a job that day. Kai however was happy to come to the airport with Kino to meet Jeenyong.

Lunch at Greenhills Mall

Wednesday. February 23, 2011.

After my morning class, I asked Kino to come go out with me for breakfast. We ate at Jollibee. He had fried bangus. I had corned beef. He thought fried bangus was not as smelly as stewed bangus. He prefer fried bangus. But he said he liked the corned beef better.

Greenhills Mall at night
I had an appointment today. I decided to take Kino with me to meet two of my girl friends- Dazzle and Mellany. We went to Greenhills Mall. Kino’s flight to Boracay was still at 5pm so we had plenty of time in the morning.

We had lunch at Banana Leaf. It was my first time to eat there. Didn’t have much idea what to order. But we had chicken, shrimp and beef. I didn’t like the beef with coconut. It sucked big time. After lunch, we had coffee courtesy of Kino.

Kino though had to leave to get a haircut. So the three of us were left in Starbucks. We waited for Kino. After an hour or so, Kino came back with a new hairdo. We didn’t really stay too long after. Kino gave me a sweat shirt. I loved it. I was actually planning to buy one.

Time’s running out. We had to hurry to get to the subway station. At the station, Kino ran to get inside, but he had to come out since I had his diary. When he got it, the train closed and left. He had to wait again. Anyway, I moved to the other side of the station to go to my station. I saw Kino on the other side. The train passed. The train moved. Kino’s gone.

END OF FIRST CHAPTER

TRAVEL | A Visit to Intramuros

Tuesday. February 22, 2011.

Trip to QC Hall

After my morning class, Kino and I ate the bread he bought the night before. Funny thing was, he thought the grated cheese on top of the empanada was noodles. I told him it wasn’t. He had tea, I had coffee. He said it was a bad habit for me- drinking coffee. I disagreed. Nevertheless, we finished breakfast with him eating up all the empanada.

At QC Hall, you need all the patience you can get.
He didn’t have any plan for this day, so I brought him with me. I was to go to Quezon City Hall and get my NBI clearance. Afterwards, we met my friend Laila in ChowKing Philcoa. We had a decent brunch there. We ate beef noodles and siopao. Laila lent me her camera.

TRAVEL | Pick up at NAIA Terminal 1

CHAPTER 1. THE FIRST WEEK
Monday. February 21, 2011.

From the Office

Entrance, a picture of disarray and poverty.
Around 6pm when an unknown number started ringing. I was in the middle of my English class. I had to excuse myself to pick up the phone. Surprise! It was Kino himself. Somehow he was able to use a cellphone at the airport.

There was no other way. Kathrina, my friend, doesn’t have time to go to the airport. Everything depends on me. I had a choice. I chose to leave the class for a while and head straight to the airport.

I decided the subway would be the fastest way. It sure was. Upon arrival at the last station, I got myself a taxi, although getting a taxi was always a struggle in this side of the city. The taxi drivers are so cheaters you can’t let them boss you around. I had to be tough. I chose to be tough and refused to be ripped off. Got myself a good taxi afterwards.

My Two-Week Vacation

I just got home yesterday and I am to write so many wonderful experiences I have had for the past two weeks. I am going to write them a bit later though since I have some other commitments to attend to. But I will not rest until I get those memories into writing.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards: Best Picture

For this review, let me focus on the best picture category. There are 10 films nominated for this year. They are:

The Black Swan (DONE)
The Fighter
Inception (DONE)
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech (Golden Globe Best Picture) (DONE)
127 Hours (DONE)
The Social Network (DONE)
Toy Story 3 (DONE)
True Grit
Winter's Bone

So far, I've only seen Inception. The King's Speech won in the Golden Globe Awards so I think it has a good chance of winning this Academy Awards. However, the other contenders such as The Social Network and The Black Swan are also potential winners after winning best director and best actress respectively in the Golden Globe.

I still have two weeks to check out the other movies and find out which one deserves to win. I might do just that this weekend. Hello Saturday and Sunday! Gotta do some grocery for comfort foods while I do a marathon.

Universal McCann Philippines

And I thought I won't write today. But I just can't help it. Just before I go to bed, I want to share what happened today. I hope these points can help me become better in future interviews which I think would be a long road for me.

1. Punctuality. Punctuality. Punctuality. Why can't I just be on time. I always try hard to fast but in the end I always arrive in my appointments late. This is already my second interview this month and I am late again for 30 minutes. I want to change this habit seriously.

2. Dress code. I know I exerted effort in making sure I make myself presentable but I still looked lousy and impoverished with my tattered belt and crumpled polo. Not to mention my torn slacks. I can't believe I go to Makati wearing this. But it's actually an issue of time rather than finances. I just can't find time to go to SM and buy the things I need.

So stressed.
3. Interview. Sure my English was good but my vocabulary just slips my mind and I keep muttering common words that do not really show what I am made of. I need to spruce up my vocabulary badly.

4. Appearance and Facial cues. More than anything is the face that sends the message to the interviewer. How can I be so presentable with my eye bags almost covering my face? I need an overhaul and I need to do it quick.

Oscar 2011 Predictions: State of the Race at Halfway Stage) same films which were nominated in the Golden Globe Awards earlier this week were predicted to come out.

I'm not really into Oscars but this year marks significantly my heightened interest in Hollywood movies which are making waves. Actually, I just want to know what movies to watch when I go to the movie house so I won't have to waste money on some crappy films. So listed below are the potential nominees in some categories:

Things that are impossible to say when you're drunk

LolSnaps (http://lolsnaps.com/?p=home&media_id=2228&cat_type=all&order_type=latest&pagenum=1) does not fail to make me laugh everytime I visit its site. Today, I was intrigued by this photo. Take a look below:

And to test this theory, I will get drunk so bad this Saturday (January 22) just so I know whether this is true or just a piece of crap. But I have to remember to avoid hard liquor so as not to wake up with hangover. Ah, such feeling which I don't want to remember ever again.

Again the words to test this Saturday (with five bottles of San Mig Light) are:

68th Annual Golden Globes Results

TELEVISION

So here's the results of the 68th Golden Globe Awards. I'm particularly happy for CHRIS COLFER of GLEE for winning the Best Supporting Actor in a Series. Also, Jane Lynch of GLEE won Best Supporting Actress in a Series. I think it only shows how biased I am to GLEE. Well that's the only drama I've been following lately anyway.

FILM

Moving on to Film, I have adored Colin Firth ever since I've seen him in Bridget Jones' Diary and I'm not surprised that he has been recognized for his acting ability. He won Best Actor for his performance in THE KING'S SPEECH. That's something I have to watch badly. On the other hand, Natalie Portman won as Best Actress for her role in the BLACK SWAN. I usually see her in a lot of movies and yes she deserves this one.

Ricky Gervais in Retrospect

Ricky Gervais in 68th Golden Globe
I don't really get this man at all... not at all. I mean when I saw him presenting the awards at the 68th Golden Globes, lambasting everyone from Angelina Jolie to Tom Hanks I said, "Hey, who's this man?" I don't even remember his face landing on newspapers or entertainment channels. It's either he's not really popular or I've turned my back on senseless entertainment reports. Not to mention rubbish dramas being produced by big networks- all for the oblivious audiences to consume. So, you can't really take it against me if I'm not very much updated on Hollywood's newest personalities. But then again, this RICKY GERVAIS seemed too pompous and arrogant to me. He should really know it better when to shut his mouth about hurting other people's feelings.

In retrospect, I am assessing whether it is valid for GERVAIS to state some insulting facts. For example, he mentioned about how "Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor played two homosexuals in a movie, while a homosexual is playing hetero in real life.. comes by a name of a famous scientologist." Hmm, then that really intrigued me.

I read the blog of GERVAIS from http://www.rickygervais.com/thissideofthetruth.php and this is what he has to say about the entire thing:

Gervais in Ellen Degeneres Undies
"I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year.

Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn't move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.

All the same conspiracy theories as last year too... "So and so was offended"... "hasn't been invited back yet"... exactly the same as last time. "Paul McCartney was furious"... no he wasn't. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.

Why do people have to embellish? They're allowed to say they hated it. They're allowed to say they didn't find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?

Don't worry, I know the answer. Because it's more interesting than "it went fine and some people won some awards and then went to a party". But that's all that happened.

Actually, I see what they mean. Boring. So here's what really happened. Bruce Willis and Sly Stallone started a fight with me but Alec Baldwin and Mark Walberg stepped in and helped me out. That's what happened."

So perhaps he was not really serious at all, and those offensive jokes were all in the light of the event's cheerful atmosphere. I just hope the Golden Globe organizers would hire someone with better sense.
