EVENTS | Top Destinations and Guide For Dance Lovers in Oman

As a highly sociable person, I make sure that I am always updated with the latest happenings within my reach. To do this, I started creating pages and groups in Facebook with the hopes of making people aware of these upcoming events.

I know the importance of being aware of where to go and what to do, because let's face it- we all need some diversion after a hard long weekday. And in order to maximize the limited weekend, we have to pre-plan our activities. With existing information here and there, pre-planning is not difficult. But we need to get this information really quickly.

A few days ago, I bumped into a relatively new concept- FOMO! Yeah, didn't know what that is about till last week. And so it happens that FOMO actually stands for Fear Of Missing Out. It's the anxiety of knowing people have attended events without you knowing about it, and worse- being left out of the photos (when you're just sulking inside your room).

This concept has been coined and included in the Oxford dictionary (so it's legit). The only way to get over this FOMO is to be where the happening is. And this is where the social media can step in.

For Muscat people, I'm sure you'll find loads of activities posted everywhere; but since I am a dance oriented individual, you can bet that most of of events would be related to dancing. So here it goes:

Oman Salsa Party and Events
Facebook Group

Oman Salsa Party and Events is a Facebook Group, updated daily regarding the most recent and future events happening in Muscat and it's nearby places. This group was conceptualized when the first Rueda De Casino flashmob was done in Muscat. Initially, this FB group was for rueda posts only, but after realizing that people can benefit more by events information, then it was expanded to what it is now- a hotspot for Muscat events.

Members: 730 and counting (as of August 2016)

Oman Salsa Party and Events
Facebook Page

A few months after the inception of the Oman Salsa Party and Events (FB Group), the Page version has been created to cater to people who are outside of the FB Group. The advantage of the FB Page is that message inquiry is much faster compared to the group. And anyone, even those who wish not to be member of the group can access this since this is a public page.

Other notable Facebook Groups that you should check out are the following:

Latin Dance Muscat
Facebook Group

Latin Dance Muscat

The group holds classes in Al Bahja Hall in Qurum, and is the prime organizers of Salsa Festivals in the country. Every week, they have events happening in clubs like On The Rocks (Seeb) and Rumba Latina (Darsit), with free workshops prior to events. Visit their class every Sunday.

Pinoy Salsa Group
Facebook Group

And if you are a Filipino who just wants to dance with similar minded Filipinos in Muscat, then this group is one to check out. More than dancing, Pinoy Salsa Group or PSG, a non profit society, that gathers Pinoys in Muscat to dance, sing in videoke, travel, party, sit and discuss about issues that concern the Philippines. This group understands that while Pinoys are naturally fond of dancing, sometimes the schedule won't allow it. So instead of going to clubs, these people come to you to enjoy and have fun; and most of all, share life experiences with fellow Filipinos.
