JOURNAL | Eid Ul Adha Mubarak!

The Eid Al Adha 2016 Holidays have been announced today, which starts from September 11th to 15th. In Oman, this five day holiday is sandwiched by two weekends, which means there are now 9 days of holiday from work. Whoa, 9 days! Yes, you've got that right. It is a complete 9 days of no work in all sectors. Some companies of course will have to plot their people's schedule by that's pretty much the idea.
"Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎‎ ʿīd al-aḍḥā, [ʕiːd ælˈʔɑdˤħæː], "Festival of the Sacrifice"), also called the "Sacrifice Feast" or "Bakr-Eid", is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of submission to God's command, before God then intervened, through his angel Jibra'il (Gabriel) and informs him that his sacrifice has already been accepted. The meat from the sacrificed animal is preferred to be divided into three parts. The family retains one third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy."

With this much holiday, what have we to do? It kills me to think that these days will come and go without doing something extraordinary ( Chainsmokers song in the background please! ). Bt of course I won't allow it if I can help it.

Now that we are on the subject of things to do for this long holiday, let me just list down some of the top of the mind I can think of:

  • Movie marathon, see the latest movies in the past months or maybe some foreign movies
  • Series marathon. e.g. Games of Thrones
  • Finish the novels currently lying on my bed hoping to be read one way or another
  • Do a roundtrip in the interiors of Oman from Muscat - Nizwa - Jabal Akhdar - Sur - Wahiba
  • Call friends for some salsa and rueda de casino
  • Check out the latest events in the clubs e.g. Route66, Traders, Rumba Latina, Rock Bottom, On The Rocks
  • Update my blogs and websites
  • Do some photoshoots with people and places
  • Or maybe I can spend the holidays working on some office matters (which would require some critical strategizing)
  • Start getting up early in the morning to jog at the beach and do yoga in the morning
  • Cook some pinoy food
  • Go to the beach and swim
  • Camp at the beach with friends
  • Find something to earn this holiday
  • Conduct dance classes
  • Play badminton or table tennis

I'd like to know what the others here in Oman are planning to do this holiday? Mind sharing them here in this blog? I'm sure you all have some other brilliant ideas, so why not share them?!

And just to show you how beautiful Oman is, here is a video that surely captivates the quintessential Arabic flair of Oman. A video which was co-sponsored by my company n Oman- Elite Travel and Tourism. ( Proud to be a part of a successful organization ).

So needless to say, this holiday is the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of Oman!
